A Royal Birthday in London

Today I'm sharing a birthday card I made for my sister-in-law Eleonora, who turned 60!

In May, the two of us went to London together. I really wanted to visit the Harry Potter Studio Tour, but there wasn't really anyone who wanted to come with me. Then my sister-in-law volunteered to join me! We travelled to London by train and had a lovely time together.

I always make a travel journal after my holidays and trips. For my London journal, I had used a background that I also wanted to incorporate into her birthday card. Besides the London theme, I wanted to include something from Lola's. They sell cupcakes there and, more importantly, gluten-free cupcakes too! So the cupcakes had to be light blue, light pink and white.

I knew exactly which elements I wanted to include, but I had no idea how to put the card together. It needed to be a landscape card so I could use the background the way I wanted. I was a little disappointed because I had really wanted to make Karen Burniston's challenge card as well. However, that design wouldn't allow me to use the background to my satisfaction.

I started by attaching the background and making the cupcakes. Then came a whole day of debating with myself about how to build the card. In the end, I settled on the Photo Gallery Pop-up (1331). The cupcakes fit perfectly on it! I did remove part of the Photo Gallery mechanism so that the cupcakes look as if they are simply standing on the card.

To help disguise the mechanism, I also used some small cupcakes from the Baking Borders (1267). The small cupcakes have pink bases with blue hearts, while the larger ones have blue bases with pink sprinkles. This way, the two sizes complement each other nicely.

Of course, a little animal had to be included too. For this card, I chose the cats from Cat and Dog (1024). And then there was the royal touch! London always makes me think a little of the British Royal Family, so a tiara was a must. I found one in Treasure Charms (1123).

On the front, I used Happy Birthday with its matching shadow layer: Happy Birthday (1030) and Happy Birthday Shadow (1179). Finally, I added a space for a personal message using Greeting Labels (1312).

In the end, I managed to bring all the elements I had in mind together on one card. And so Eleonora received a card for her 60th birthday that combines memories of our London adventure!

Sorry daarvoor. Ik ben even tijdelijk druk met mantelzorg.

Nu even over de kaart. Mijn neefje is 12 jaar geworden.

Today a card from a while ago. I have to be honest: I'm finding it hard to get back into a card-making rhythm. Sorry about that. I'm temporarily busy with caring for a family member.

Now, about the card. My nephew turned 12. When you turn 12, you naturally need 12 candles. So I quickly decided to use the Birthday Candle Add-ons (1258). Those go together with the Fancy Label Accordion (1043), of course.

To dress it up a bit, I added some little animals from the Woodland Animals Die Set (1001). Since my nephew is crazy about stink animals, that choice was easy. And a bit of text from the Word Set 2: Birthday Die Set (1003). The 12 comes from the Numbers (1031).

Karen Burniston DC 110 - Hey, Pumpkin!

Today it's time for the challenge card again. This month's theme is "Hey, Pumpkin!" and of course, that means pumpkins.

After giving it some thought, I decided to make two cards. I have two nephews who have moved into their own rooms, and what is more fun than simply getting some mail when you are living on your own? And what could be more fun than finding a house pop-up in your mailbox?

Since Halloween is almost here, I thought it would be fun to give the cards a Halloween theme as well. And that's how I ended up making two little Halloween houses, complete with pumpkins.

For both cards, I used the Tiny House Pop-Up (1157) as the base. The Haunted Tiny House Add-Ons (1174) were perfect for turning them into Halloween houses. Of course, the pumpkins couldn't be left out.

The result is two cards that fit this month's theme perfectly and will hopefully make a fun surprise in the mailbox for my two nephews.
