A Royal Birthday in London

Today I'm sharing a birthday card I made for my sister-in-law Eleonora, who turned 60!

In May, the two of us went to London together. I really wanted to visit the Harry Potter Studio Tour, but there wasn't really anyone who wanted to come with me. Then my sister-in-law volunteered to join me! We travelled to London by train and had a lovely time together.

I always make a travel journal after my holidays and trips. For my London journal, I had used a background that I also wanted to incorporate into her birthday card. Besides the London theme, I wanted to include something from Lola's. They sell cupcakes there and, more importantly, gluten-free cupcakes too! So the cupcakes had to be light blue, light pink and white.

I knew exactly which elements I wanted to include, but I had no idea how to put the card together. It needed to be a landscape card so I could use the background the way I wanted. I was a little disappointed because I had really wanted to make Karen Burniston's challenge card as well. However, that design wouldn't allow me to use the background to my satisfaction.

I started by attaching the background and making the cupcakes. Then came a whole day of debating with myself about how to build the card. In the end, I settled on the Photo Gallery Pop-up (1331). The cupcakes fit perfectly on it! I did remove part of the Photo Gallery mechanism so that the cupcakes look as if they are simply standing on the card.

To help disguise the mechanism, I also used some small cupcakes from the Baking Borders (1267). The small cupcakes have pink bases with blue hearts, while the larger ones have blue bases with pink sprinkles. This way, the two sizes complement each other nicely.

Of course, a little animal had to be included too. For this card, I chose the cats from Cat and Dog (1024). And then there was the royal touch! London always makes me think a little of the British Royal Family, so a tiara was a must. I found one in Treasure Charms (1123).

On the front, I used Happy Birthday with its matching shadow layer: Happy Birthday (1030) and Happy Birthday Shadow (1179). Finally, I added a space for a personal message using Greeting Labels (1312).

In the end, I managed to bring all the elements I had in mind together on one card. And so Eleonora received a card for her 60th birthday that combines memories of our London adventure!

Sorry daarvoor. Ik ben even tijdelijk druk met mantelzorg.

Nu even over de kaart. Mijn neefje is 12 jaar geworden.

Today a card from a while ago. I have to be honest: I'm finding it hard to get back into a card-making rhythm. Sorry about that. I'm temporarily busy with caring for a family member.

Now, about the card. My nephew turned 12. When you turn 12, you naturally need 12 candles. So I quickly decided to use the Birthday Candle Add-ons (1258). Those go together with the Fancy Label Accordion (1043), of course.

To dress it up a bit, I added some little animals from the Woodland Animals Die Set (1001). Since my nephew is crazy about stink animals, that choice was easy. And a bit of text from the Word Set 2: Birthday Die Set (1003). The 12 comes from the Numbers (1031).

Karen Burniston DC 110 - Hey, Pumpkin!

Today it's time for the challenge card again. This month's theme is "Hey, Pumpkin!" and of course, that means pumpkins.

After giving it some thought, I decided to make two cards. I have two nephews who have moved into their own rooms, and what is more fun than simply getting some mail when you are living on your own? And what could be more fun than finding a house pop-up in your mailbox?

Since Halloween is almost here, I thought it would be fun to give the cards a Halloween theme as well. And that's how I ended up making two little Halloween houses, complete with pumpkins.

For both cards, I used the Tiny House Pop-Up (1157) as the base. The Haunted Tiny House Add-Ons (1174) were perfect for turning them into Halloween houses. Of course, the pumpkins couldn't be left out.

The result is two cards that fit this month's theme perfectly and will hopefully make a fun surprise in the mailbox for my two nephews.

Dies used:

  • Tiny House Pop-Up (1157)
  • Haunted Tiny House Add-Ons (1174)
  • Alphabet (1053)
  • Mini Alphabet and Numbers (1197)
  • Greeting Labels (1312)
  • Squares - Crosshatch (1056)
  • Autumn Elements (1059)

Today I have a card to share that I made for a boy with quite a story. I heard about a 16-year-old boy who had just graduated and then went to the doctor, where he was diagnosed with cancer. This really affected me, so I asked if I could make a card for him.

Because of his treatments, his eyesight is not very good at the moment, and he is also colour-blind. So... a card with lots of contrast.

Since I wanted to use my large letters, I decided to fold a black A4 sheet lengthwise. This way, the word "opkikker" fitted perfectly on the card. I also made some bright green frogs so they would really stand out.

To build the card, I used the Little Labels Pop-Up (1183) in black. I wanted the mechanism to be as unobtrusive as possible, and black on black worked perfectly. This makes the letters look like they are floating a little.

He really liked the card and put it somewhere where he can see it. He is still going through his treatments, but he has already been told that he will get his eyesight back.

I really enjoyed making this card for him, and especially knowing that it could make someone a little bit happier.

Alweer 20 jaar!

Today seemed like a good day to start writing my blog again. I had a wonderful vacation. Today also felt like a good day to start again because it's my son's birthday. It was already 20 years ago that he was born, so today's card is his birthday card.

I brought a kind of poster back from Vietnam and used it as the background for the card. Then I needed a little time to decide which mechanism I wanted to use. In the end, I chose the Playful Pop-up (1313).

For the animal on the card, I took a little gamble and used a beaver. I didn't have an otter. The beaver also came with a gnawed tree stump. I thought it looked a bit like a candle, so I added a flame from the Birthday Candle Add-ons (1358) to the top.

At the bottom, I used a square from the Greeting Labels (1312) and stamped "Happy Birthday to You" on it. The sentiment comes from the Photo Memories Clear Stamps set.

Keyon, happy 20th birthday!

Karen Burniston DC 109 - "cascade"

Today it's time for another challenge card. I'm currently on vacation in Vietnam, so I hope everything goes well with this card. By that I mainly mean that I don't forget to post it on Facebook!

For this card I used the newest Cascade Pop-up (1336), together with the Square Cascade Add-ons (1337). On both sides of the cascade, I created a kind of shop shelf, inspired by the Weasley brothers' shop. The shelves are filled with Love Potion, Chocolate Frogs and much more.

The Love Potion is being made in the background in the Cauldron from Witch and Cauldron (1249). For the Chocolate Frogs, I used two different frogs: the sitting frog from Bayou Animals (1181) and the jumping frog from Leaping Animals (1301).

The stones were made using the stones from Tent Pop-Up (1048), and the sweets come from Gingerbread Tiny House Add-Ons (1173).

For the front and inside of the card, I used a postcard and wrapping paper that I bought at the Harry Potter Studios. This helped give the card a little more of the atmosphere of the Wizarding World.

Trekdrop

A few months ago, a girl went on the Four Days Marches with her school. When you are walking, it is always nice to have a little candy along the way, so I said: “Ooooh, you have to get Trekdrop. They are so good!”

But then I found out that Trekdrop is an old-fashioned Dutch candy and is becoming harder and harder to find in stores. So you can't just pick them up everywhere anymore. I promised to get some Trekdrop for her birthday.

Of course, that also called for a birthday card. And what could be more appropriate than a card featuring Trekdrop?

I made the Trekdrop myself. As far as I know, nobody has made a die for them yet, so I had to make them myself. As the base, I used the Cupcake Pop-Up Die Set (1008). Of course, a little animal had to be included, so I used a giraffe from the Safari Animals (1127) set.

On the front, I used the Happy Birthday sentiment together with its shadow, Happy Birthday (1030) and Happy Birthday Shadow (1179).

Even tussendoortje

Vandaag even een snelle kaart.

Today, just a quick card. Someone in the Peeps group on Facebook wanted to know if the Christmas Tree Pop-Up (1020) would fit inside the gazebo. Of course, I had to give it a try!

And yes, it works. I did make the posts of the gazebo a little higher, because otherwise the Christmas tree would disappear completely underneath the roof. This does mean that the card needs a larger envelope, but the tree is now clearly visible.

Since I'm leaving for vacation soon, I only decorated the Christmas tree with a few lights. This also keeps the tree itself clearly visible and makes it easier to see how it fits inside the gazebo.

I hope my little test was helpful!

Karen Burniston DC 108 - "Mealtime"

Today it's time for another Challenge Card, and this time the theme was "Mealtime." Even though it's 35°C outside, I decided to get back into Christmas mode. Maybe it will help cool things down a little!

I absolutely love the cookies from the Dessert Elements (1339), so I couldn't resist making lots of them. The cookies are displayed on a round plate from the Mealtime Elements (1338). I used the Upsy Daisy Pop-Up (1047) as the base of the card, and the squares were created with the Square Cascade Add-ons (1337). To finish the card, I added the words "Cookie Time" to the front using the Alphabet (1053).

KB Riley LLC juli 2026 release Blog Hop

Today it's time for another blog hop! For this card I used the new Cascade Pop-up. The circular elements immediately made me think of the Snowman Twist Circle (1012). They fit perfectly on the circles of the Cascade Pop-up and add a fun, playful look.

I decorated the rest of the card with the Snowman (1017). On the front I combined the Merry Christmas (1065) with the Merry Christmas Shadow (1177), which makes the greeting stand out even more.

For the writing area I chose the Hexagon Crosshatch. I wanted to use something different from the usual label shapes, and I really like how it complements the overall design.

I hope this blog hop inspires you. Don't forget to visit the other designers in today's blog hop for even more inspiration!

  • 1343 Toolbox Pop-up
  • 1345 Six Pack Toolbox Add-ons
  • 1339 Dessert Elements (wit schrijfvlak)
  • 1219 Sports Charms
  • 1164 Happy Father's Day
  • 1054 Rectangles – Crosshatch

I’m sharing the final two cards for Thursday’s blog hop today. When I made these cards, I was completely in the mood for the World Cup, so choosing a theme for the Six Pack was easy.

I grabbed some soccer-themed patterned paper and started creating my Six Pack card. It was such a fun project to make. Add a few beers, a soccer ball and some fun details, and you end up with a cheerful card for any soccer fan.

For this card I used the following Karen Burniston dies:

  • 1343 Toolbox Pop-up
  • 1345 Six Pack Toolbox Add-ons
  • 1339 Dessert Elements (white writing panel)
  • 1337 Square Cascade Add-ons (green layer under the writing panel)
  • 1219 Sports Charms
  • 1164 Happy Father's Day
  • 1054 Rectangles – Crosshatch

Gebruikte dies:
1338 Mealtime Elements
1341 Little Bench Pop-Up
1081 Circle Tag Book Pop-Up
1073 Wine Charms

Day 6 of the sneak peeks is all about food. And what could be better than a plate of spaghetti? My almost 20-year-old son has been cooking quite regularly lately, and he makes a really good pasta. I certainly don't mind that!

The theme was easy to choose, but then I had to decide on the card design. All the circles reminded me of the Circle Tag Book Pop-Up (1081), a die I hadn't used in quite a while. It was fun to bring it back. I did spend some time deciding on the color of the plate, but in the end I kept it fairly neutral so the rest of the design would stand out.

To decorate the card, I used the leaves from the Little Bench Pop-Up (1341) together with the grapes from the Wine Charms (1073). Of course, the delicious pasta from the new Mealtime Elements (1338) had to be the star of the card. I also added a few sentiments from the new stamp set, which fit this theme perfectly.

Dies used:

1338 Mealtime Elements
1341 Little Bench Pop-Up
1081 Circle Tag Book Pop-Up
1073 Wine Charms

Dag 5: Klein bankje, groot kerstgevoel

Dit keer staat het schattige Little Bench Pop-up centraal.

1344 Little Bench Pop-up
1017 Snowman
1012 Snowman Twist Circle
1171 Street Lantern Pop-up

Today it's time for sneak peek number 5! This time I used the adorable Little Bench Pop-up. Instead of making the bench white or brown, I thought it would be fun to give it a completely different look. So I chose a bright red bench, perfect for a festive Christmas scene.

Next to the bench I added the Street Lantern Pop-up. To make the scene feel even more cozy, I included a few snowmen. Around the edges I used pine greenery with little bows for an extra festive touch. For the sentiment area I used the circles from the Snowman Twist Circle (1012).

I used the following Karen Burniston dies for this card:

1344 Little Bench Pop-up
1017 Snowman
1012 Snowman Twist Circle
1311 Pine Cone (for the snowman's buttons)
1171 Street Lantern Pop-up

Dag 4 - even afkoelen

1342 Paper People Summer Styles
1341 Little Bench Pop-up
1259 Tiny Accessories 4
1339 Dessert Elements
1299 Paper People

For my fourth sneak peek I have two more cards to share. This time I had fun creating with the Gazebo Stage Add-ons. Since I also wanted to use the Paper People Summer Styles, I suddenly had the idea to turn the stage into a swimming pool.

The Tiny Accessories 4 set includes fun summer accessories like swimming goggles, flippers, an inflatable swim ring and an inflatable flamingo. They are a perfect match for a pool scene, so I transformed both gazebos into cheerful swimming pools.

To add even more summer vibes, I included strawberries from the Dessert Elements set. These cards were so much fun to make and are perfect for sunny summer inspiration.

Products used:

1340 Gazebo Stage Add-ons
1342 Paper People Summer Styles
1341 Little Bench Pop-up
1259 Tiny Accessories 4
1339 Dessert Elements

  • 1336 Cascade Pop-up
  • 1339 Dessert Elements
  • 1338 Mealtime Elements
  • 1337 Square Cascade Add-ons
  • 1269 Tea and Coffee Pop-up
  • 1030 Happy Birthday
  • 1179 Happy Birthday Shadow
  • 1312 Greeting Labels

Today I'm sharing another Cascade card... actually, it's two! I really love this card design and had so much fun creating it. This time I used the Square Cascade Add-ons to build a tiered serving stand.

I added round plates filled with delicious desserts from the new Dessert Elements and Mealtime Elements sets. And of course, no afternoon tea is complete without a nice cup of tea, so I included the Tea and Coffee Pop-up as well.

For the writing area I used one of the labels from Greeting Labels (1312). On the front of the card I combined Happy Birthday with Happy Birthday Shadow for a cheerful birthday greeting. I'd love to know which of the two cards is your favorite!

Here is the list of dies I used:

  • 1336 Cascade Pop-up
  • 1339 Dessert Elements
  • 1338 Mealtime Elements
  • 1337 Square Cascade Add-ons
  • 1269 Tea and Coffee Pop-up
  • 1030 Happy Birthday
  • 1179 Happy Birthday Shadow
  • 1312 Greeting Labels

Gebruikte stansen:

1343 Toolbox Pop-Up
1332 Stage Pop-Up
1344 Tool Time Stage Add-ons
1153 Tool Charms (voor een spiegelbeeld)
1312 Greeting Labels

Today I'm sharing a card featuring the new Toolbox Pop-Up by Karen Burniston. I deliberately don't call this a men's card, because I know from experience that plenty of women enjoy working with tools too. This design is perfect for anyone who loves DIY projects.

The new Toolbox Pop-Up pairs perfectly with the Tool Charms (1153). If you use silver mirror cardstock, you can use the Tool Charms to create a mirrored image. This way, the finished pieces have a smooth, scratch-free front.

For this card, I placed the Toolbox Pop-Up on the Stage Pop-Up. I also used the new Tool Time Stage Add-ons to decorate the stage and complete the scene. Together, these dies create a fun interactive card that's perfect for birthdays, thank-you cards, or anyone who enjoys building and fixing things.

Dies used:

1343 Toolbox Pop-Up
1332 Stage Pop-Up
1344 Tool Time Stage Add-ons
1153 Tool Charms (for creating a mirror image)
1312 Greeting Labels

1336 Cascade Pop-Up
1065 Merry Christmas
1177 Merry Christmas Shadow
1286 Poinsettia
1184 Crosshatch Labels

Welcome to the first day of the Karen Burniston sneak peek week! I'm starting with a card featuring the brand-new Cascade Pop-Up. Even though Christmas is still about six months away, I couldn't resist making a holiday card.

I'm a big fan of poinsettias, and as soon as I saw the Cascade Pop-Up with its circular elements, it immediately reminded me of them. That's how the idea for this card was born.

For this card I used the following Karen Burniston dies:

1336 Cascade Pop-Up
1065 Merry Christmas
1177 Merry Christmas Shadow
1286 Poinsettia
1184 Crosshatch Labels
