Dag 2: een stoere kaart voor iedere klusser

Vandaag laat ik een kaart zien met de nieuwe Toolbox Pop-Up van Karen Burniston. Ik noem dit bewust geen mannenkaart, want uit ervaring weet ik dat er genoeg vrouwen zijn die net zo handig zijn met gereedschap. Deze kaart is dus voor iedereen die graag klust.

De nieuwe Toolbox Pop-Up is heel leuk te combineren met de Tool Charms (1153). Gebruik je zilverkleurig spiegelkarton, dan kun je de Tool Charms ook gebruiken om een spiegelbeeld te maken. Zo blijven er geen krasjes zichtbaar op de voorkant van je gereedschap.

Voor deze kaart heb ik de Toolbox Pop-Up op de Stage Pop-Up geplaatst. Daarnaast heb ik de nieuwe Tool Time Stage Add-ons gebruikt om het podium helemaal aan te kleden. Samen zorgen deze sets voor een leuke, speelse kaart die perfect is voor een verjaardag, bedankje of iedere andere gelegenheid voor een echte doe-het-zelver.

Today I'm sharing a card featuring the new Toolbox Pop-Up by Karen Burniston. I deliberately don't call this a men's card, because I know from experience that plenty of women enjoy working with tools too. This design is perfect for anyone who loves DIY projects.

The new Toolbox Pop-Up pairs perfectly with the Tool Charms (1153). If you use silver mirror cardstock, you can use the Tool Charms to create a mirrored image. This way, the finished pieces have a smooth, scratch-free front.

For this card, I placed the Toolbox Pop-Up on the Stage Pop-Up. I also used the new Tool Time Stage Add-ons to decorate the stage and complete the scene. Together, these dies create a fun interactive card that's perfect for birthdays, thank-you cards, or anyone who enjoys building and fixing things.

Eerste Sneak Peek: een Cascade kerstkaart

Vandaag begint de sneak peek-week van de nieuwe producten van Karen Burniston. Ik trap af met een kaart die is gemaakt met de nieuwe Cascade Pop-Up. Het duurt nog ongeveer een half jaar voordat het kerst is, maar ik kon het niet laten om alvast een kerstkaart te maken.

Ik ben een groot fan van kerststerren en toen ik de Cascade Pop-Up met de ronde elementen zag, moest ik daar meteen aan denken. Zo ontstond het idee voor deze kaart.

Welcome to the first day of the Karen Burniston sneak peek week! I'm starting with a card featuring the brand-new Cascade Pop-Up. Even though Christmas is still about six months away, I couldn't resist making a holiday card.

I'm a big fan of poinsettias, and as soon as I saw the Cascade Pop-Up with its circular elements, it immediately reminded me of them. That's how the idea for this card was born.

Een kaart die meer zegt dan woorden

Vandaag laat ik een kaart zien die ik in opdracht heb gemaakt. Niet de leukste opdracht die ik ooit heb gekregen. Ik mocht een kaart maken voor een meneer die te horen heeft gekregen dat hij nog maar drie weken te leven heeft. Dat nieuws kwam ook bij mij wel even binnen.

Toch geloof ik dat een kaartje heel veel kan betekenen. Als ik met een kaart een glimlach op iemands gezicht kan toveren, dan doe ik dat graag. Toen mijn oom in de laatste maand van zijn leven lag te sterven, stuurde ik hem iedere dag een kaart. Hij keek er elke dag naar uit. Nadat hij was overleden, legde mijn tante alle kaarten bij hem in zijn kist. Pas achteraf besefte ik hoe waardevol zo'n klein gebaar kan zijn.

Misschien is dat ook wel de boodschap van vandaag: onderschat nooit wat een eenvoudig kaartje voor iemand kan betekenen.

Mijn vriendin wilde deze meneer ook graag een glimlach bezorgen en daarom ben ik aan de slag gegaan. Al snel wist ik dat de tekst "Sending a Smile" perfect zou passen. Deze tekst komt uit de Word Set 14 - Hugs (1184). Als basis gebruikte ik de Mailbox Pop-Up (1192). De postzegels maakte ik met de Postage Pop-Up (1291) en de Greeting Labels (1312). Op een opkikkerkaart mogen natuurlijk ook kikkertjes niet ontbreken. De zittende kikker komt uit Bayou Animals (1181) en de springende kikker uit Leaping Animals (1301).

Today I'm sharing a card I made on commission. It wasn't the easiest project I've ever received. I was asked to create a card for a gentleman who had just been told he only had three weeks left to live. That was difficult to hear, even for me.

Still, I truly believe that a handmade card can make a real difference. If I can bring a smile to someone's face with a card, it's always worth making. During the last month of my uncle's life, I sent him a card every single day. He looked forward to receiving them. After he passed away, my aunt placed all of those cards in his coffin. Only afterwards did I realize how meaningful such a small gesture can be.

Maybe that's the message I'd like to share today: never underestimate how much a simple card can mean to someone.

My friend wanted to bring this gentleman a smile as well, so I happily created this card. I quickly decided that "Sending a Smile" would be the perfect sentiment. The words come from Word Set 14 - Hugs (1184). I used the Mailbox Pop-Up (1192) as the base. The postage stamps were created with the Postage Pop-Up (1291) and Greeting Labels (1312). And of course, an uplifting card needs some frogs! The sitting frog is from Bayou Animals (1181), while the jumping frog comes from Leaping Animals (1301).

Een feestelijke geslaagdkaart vol vuurwerk

Vandaag laat ik de geslaagdkaart zien die ik maakte voor mijn neefje. Ja, we hebben dit jaar zelfs twee geslaagden in de familie, dus dat is zeker een reden voor een feestje!

Voor deze kaart ben ik helemaal losgegaan met Fireworks (1287). Omdat ik wilde dat het vuurwerk echt zou knallen, koos ik voor een donkere achtergrond. De lichte en contrasterende kleuren zorgen ervoor dat het vuurwerk extra goed opvalt.

Als basis gebruikte ik de Lorna Label Pop-up (1266), uitgevoerd in dezelfde kleur als de achtergrond. Daardoor krijgt het kleurrijke vuurwerk alle aandacht zodra de kaart opengaat.

De vlag, de teksten "Hoera" en "Geslaagd" zijn van CarlijnDesign. Samen maken ze deze kaart helemaal af. Een vrolijke kaart voor een mooie mijlpaal!

Today I'm sharing the graduation card I made for my nephew. We actually have two graduates in the family this year, so there's plenty to celebrate!

For this card I went all out with Fireworks (1287). To make the fireworks really stand out, I chose a dark background. The bright, contrasting colors make the fireworks pop even more.

I used the Lorna Label Pop-up (1266) as the base, in the same color as the background. That way all the attention goes straight to the colorful fireworks when the card opens.

The flag and the words "Hoera" and "Geslaagd" are from CarlijnDesign. Together they complete this festive card, perfect for celebrating such a wonderful achievement!

Een BBQ-verjaardagskaart

Vandaag laat ik een speciale verjaardagskaart zien die ik voor mijn man Ronald heb gemaakt. Hij is een echte BBQ-liefhebber en staat maar al te graag achter de barbecue. Toen CarlijnDesign met de leuke BBQ-set kwam, wist ik meteen dat ik daar een verjaardagskaart mee wilde maken.

Als basis gebruikte ik de Karen Burniston Twist Flower Pop-up (1239). Die bleek perfect te combineren met alle leuke barbecue-elementen. Op de grill liggen een hamburger, maïs, een kippenpoot en een vis. Natuurlijk mochten de braadworsten en het barbecuegereedschap ook niet ontbreken. Zo is het een vrolijke kaart geworden die helemaal bij Ronald past.

Today I'm sharing a special birthday card I made for my husband Ronald. He loves barbecuing and is always happy to fire up the grill. When CarlijnDesign released their fun BBQ set, I immediately knew I wanted to use it for his birthday card.

I used the Karen Burniston Twist Flower Pop-up (1239) as the base of the card. It worked perfectly with all the fun barbecue elements. On the grill you'll find a hamburger, corn on the cob, a chicken drumstick and a fish. Of course, I also added some sausages and the barbecue tools to complete the scene. It turned into a cheerful card that suits Ronald perfectly.

Karen Burniston DC 107 - "Box Or Blocks"

Vandaag is het weer tijd voor de challengekaart! Mijn opdracht was het thema 'blocks'. In het begin wist ik niet zo goed welke kant ik op wilde, maar gelukkig kreeg ik inspiratie uit de laatste Zoom-les van Karen Burniston.

Ik ben begonnen met de Twist Flower Pop-up (1239) en de Rockin' Rectangle Pop-up (1089). Het leuke mechanisme uit de les vond ik zo mooi dat ik dat graag wilde gebruiken voor deze kaart.

Daarna begon het echte puzzelen. Hoe kon ik het thema 'blocks' verwerken? Uiteindelijk kwam ik uit bij een Rubik's Cube. Dat betekende heel veel kleine vierkantjes snijden en die één voor één op een groter vierkant plakken. Even een precies werkje, maar ik ben erg blij met het resultaat!

Voor de afwerking heb ik een 'Happy Birthday' gestempeld en uitgestanst met een banner uit de Greeting Labels (1312). De vrolijke bloemetjes komen uit de Fun Flowers (1234) en de schattige giraf is afkomstig uit Safari Animals (1127). Het schrijfgedeelte maakte ik met de grote bloem uit de Twist Flower Pop-up (1239).

Het was even zoeken naar een goed idee, maar uiteindelijk is het een vrolijke kaart geworden.

It's time for another challenge card! This time my theme was "blocks." At first I wasn't quite sure what to make, but the inspiration came from Karen Burniston's latest Zoom class.

I started with the Twist Flower Pop-up (1239) and the Rockin' Rectangle Pop-up (1089). I really loved the mechanism Karen demonstrated, so I decided to use it for this project.

Then it was time to figure out how to include the blocks theme. After thinking about it for a while, I landed on the idea of a Rubik's Cube. That meant cutting lots of tiny squares and attaching them one by one onto a larger square. It took some patience, but I really like how it turned out.

To finish the card, I stamped a "Happy Birthday" sentiment and die cut it with a banner from the Greeting Labels (1312). The cheerful flowers were made with Fun Flowers (1234), and I added the cute giraffe from Safari Animals (1127). The writing panel was created using the large flower from the Twist Flower Pop-up (1239).

I had to think about the theme for a while, but in the end I'm really happy with this colorful card.

Lief klein geboortekaartje

Vandaag laat ik een geboortekaartje zien dat is geïnspireerd op het originele geboortekaartje. Ik kreeg er een foto van toegestuurd en vond het leuk om er een bijpassende kaart bij te maken.

Sev is de naam van de kleine man en op zijn geboortekaartje stond een giraf. De kleuren waren vooral blauw, met hier en daar wat groene blaadjes. Dat heb ik als uitgangspunt gebruikt voor mijn eigen ontwerp.

Ik vind het altijd leuk als een kaart ook mooi kan blijven staan. Daarom heb ik de Fancy Label Accordion (1043) gebruikt. De grote letters zijn van Stampin' Up!, terwijl de schattige girafjes uit de Karen Burniston Safari Animals (1127) stansset komen.

Het is een lief, klein kaartje geworden. Dat past eigenlijk perfect bij een korte naam!

Today I'm sharing a baby card inspired by the original birth announcement. I received a photo of it and thought it would be fun to create a matching card.

Sev is the little boy's name, and the birth announcement featured a giraffe. The design mainly used blue tones with a few green leaves, so I used those colors as the starting point for my card.

I always enjoy making cards that can stand up on display, so I chose the Karen Burniston Fancy Label Accordion (1043). The large letters are from Stampin' Up!, and the adorable giraffes are from the Karen Burniston Safari Animals (1127) die set.

It turned into a sweet little card. A short name is perfect for a smaller design like this!

Halloween verjaardagskaart met een Disney-knipoog

Vandaag laat ik de verjaardagskaart zien die ik maakte voor mijn nichtje. Vorig jaar september gingen we samen naar Disney World, speciaal omdat zij zo'n grote fan is van Halloween. Toen ik een thema voor haar verjaardagskaart moest bedenken, was de keuze dan ook snel gemaakt.

Als basis gebruikte ik de Ice Cream Sundae Pop-up (1082). De bolletjes ijs kregen gezellige Halloweenkleuren, waardoor de kaart meteen een vrolijke Halloween-uitstraling kreeg.

Ik voeg altijd graag kleine scènes toe aan mijn kaarten. Voor deze kaart gebruikte ik daarom de schattige figuren uit Skeleton and Bat (1206). Het skelet en de vleermuis passen natuurlijk perfect bij het Halloween-thema.

De slinger komt uit Graduation Elements (1302). Voor de "birthday" gebruikte ik Mini Alphabet and Numbers (1197) en het woord "Happy" maakte ik met de Alphabet (1053). De kleine toefjes "grey stuff" – een knipoog naar Beauty and the Beast – komen uit Baking Borders (1267). Tot slot schreef ik de boodschap op een label uit Short Rectangles - Crosshatch (1199).

Ik vind het altijd leuk om persoonlijke herinneringen in een kaart te verwerken. Deze kaart brengt niet alleen haar verjaardag, maar ook onze geweldige Disney World-reis weer helemaal terug.

Today I'm sharing the birthday card I made for my niece. Last September we visited Disney World together because she is such a huge Halloween fan. So when it was time to create her birthday card, a Halloween theme was the obvious choice.

I used the Ice Cream Sundae Pop-up (1082) as the base of the card. The scoops of ice cream were made in fun Halloween-inspired colors, giving the whole card a festive Halloween feel.

I always enjoy creating small scenes inside my cards. For this one I used the adorable images from Skeleton and Bat (1206). The skeleton and bat are the perfect match for a Halloween theme.

The banner comes from Graduation Elements (1302). I used Mini Alphabet and Numbers (1197) for her birthday, while the word "Happy" was created with Alphabet (1053). The little dollops of "grey stuff"—a fun reference to Beauty and the Beast—come from Baking Borders (1267). Finally, greeting label from Short Rectangles - Crosshatch (1199).

I always love adding personal memories to my cards. This one celebrates not only her birthday, but also reminds us of our wonderful trip to Disney World.

Een vrolijke verjaardag op het podium

Vandaag een kaartje met een leuk en grappig verhaaltje erbij. Voor de vorige challenge moesten we de kleuren van de vlag gebruiken. Dat was eigenlijk de kaart die ik hiervoor had gemaakt. Omdat er al meerdere Stage-kaarten voor de challenge waren gemaakt – en eerlijk is eerlijk, het blijft een geweldige kaart om te maken én te krijgen – besloot ik voor deze blog een andere kaart te laten zien.

Uiteindelijk heb ik deze kaart gebruikt voor de verjaardag van mijn nichtje. Voor de basis gebruikte ik de Stage Pop-up (1332) samen met de Grass Stage Add-ons (1333). Daarmee creëer je meteen een vrolijk podium voor alle figuurtjes.

De tulpen en bloempotten komen uit de Garden Charms (1085). Natuurlijk mochten ook een paar schattige diertjes niet ontbreken. De konijntjes zijn afkomstig uit de Spring Animals (1074) en zorgen voor een extra speels effect.

Als laatste voegde ik een banner uit de Greeting Labels (1312) toe met daarop een gestempelde "Happy Birthday". Zo ontstond een vrolijke verjaardagskaart vol kleur, bloemen en schattige dieren.

Today I am sharing a card with a fun little story behind it. For the previous challenge, we had to use the colors of a flag. That was actually the card I originally created for the challenge. Since several Stage cards had already been made – and honestly, it is such a fun card design to make and receive – I decided to create something different for this post.

In the end, I used this card for my niece's birthday. The base of the card was created with the Stage Pop-up (1332) and the Grass Stage Add-ons (1333). Together they create the perfect stage for all the cute elements.

The tulips and flower pots are from the Garden Charms (1085) set. Of course, I also had to include some adorable animals. The rabbits come from the Spring Animals (1074) set and add a playful touch to the scene.

To finish the card, I added a banner from the Greeting Labels (1312) with a stamped "Happy Birthday" sentiment. The result is a cheerful birthday card filled with flowers, color and cute little critters.

Oeps foutje

Vandaag een kaartje met een leuk verhaal. Deze kaart heb ik persoonlijk afgegeven voor een verjaardag. Toen ik de kaart overhandigde, bedacht ik me ineens – met schaamrood op mijn kaken – dat ik eigenlijk niet eens meer wist welke kaart er in de envelop zat.

Wat doe ik dan? Dan kijk ik natuurlijk even tussen de foto's die ik altijd van mijn kaarten maak. Maar ook dat hielp niet. Nog steeds geen idee! Omdat de envelop al dichtgeplakt was, zat er niets anders op dan afwachten.

Een dag later kreeg ik een foto van de kaart toegestuurd. Toen bleek waarom ik hem nergens terug kon vinden: ik was vergeten deze kaart te fotograferen. Daarom moeten jullie het vandaag doen met een echte huis-tuin-en-keukenfoto.

Voor deze kaart heb ik de laatste vlindertjes uit mijn grote voorraad gebruikt. Als basis gebruikte ik de Karen Burniston Woven Basket Box Card Pop-up (1080) samen met de Wide Woven Basket Card (1223). De bloemen zijn van Marianne Design. Het woord "Happy" komt uit de Happy Word Set (1276) en "Birthday" uit de Word Set 2 - Birthday Die Set (1003).

Today I have a card with a funny story behind it. I personally delivered this birthday card and, while handing it over, I suddenly realized—with a slightly embarrassed feeling—that I couldn't remember which card was actually inside the envelope.

So what did I do? I checked the photos I normally take of every card I make. Unfortunately, that didn't help at all. I still had no idea. Since the envelope was already sealed, all I could do was wait.

The next day I received a photo of the card. That's when I discovered why I couldn't find it in my photo collection: I had completely forgotten to take a picture of it. So today you'll have to settle for a simple snapshot instead of my usual photos.

For this card I used the last butterflies from my large butterfly stash. The base was created with the Karen Burniston Woven Basket Box Card Pop-up (1080) and the Wide Woven Basket Card (1223). The flowers are from Marianne Design. The word "Happy" comes from the Happy Word Set (1276) and "Birthday" from the Word Set 2 - Birthday Die Set (1003).

Condoleancekaart met uitzicht op zee

Vandaag laat ik een condoleancekaart zien die ik maakte naar aanleiding van een overlijdensbericht. Op de aankondiging stond een meneer die uitkeek over de zee, en dat beeld wilde ik graag terug laten komen in mijn kaart.

Ik ben daarom door mijn dies gegaan en kwam uit bij de Adirondack Chair Pop-up (1071). Voor deze kaart heb ik de Adirondack stoel verwerkt als een clue-in. Persoonlijk vind ik de clue-in techniek net wat mooier en subtieler dan de originele pop-up uitvoering.

Daarnaast heb ik mijn waterverfspullen erbij gepakt om een rustige zee en lucht te creëren. Met de Tropical Scene (1038) en een zelfgemaakt waterverfachtergrondje heb ik het tafereel opgebouwd. Zo ontstond een serene scène die goed past bij de gedachte achter een condoleancekaart.

Om het geheel af te maken heb ik nog een zonnetje, een wolkje, enkele schelpen en een vlindertje toegevoegd. Kleine details die zorgen voor een zachte en vredige uitstraling.

Today I am sharing a sympathy card inspired by a funeral announcement. The announcement showed a gentleman looking out over the sea, and I wanted to capture that peaceful image in my card.

I went through my dies and decided to use the Adirondack Chair Pop-up (1071). For this project I turned the Adirondack chair into a clue-in design. Personally, I prefer the look of the clue-in technique because it feels a little more subtle and elegant.

I also brought out my watercolor supplies to create a soft ocean and sky background. Using the Tropical Scene (1038) together with a hand-painted watercolor panel, I was able to build a calm seaside scene that perfectly suited the occasion.

To finish the card, I added a small sun, a cloud, some seashells and a butterfly. These little details help create a peaceful and comforting atmosphere.

Op naar het volgende avontuur

Yes, even een snelle kaart tussendoor. Keyon heeft net te horen gekregen dat hij is geslaagd voor zijn VWO. En hier in Nederland hangen we dan altijd een vlag uit met de schooltas eraan. Helaas hebben wij geen vlaggenstok of vlag, dus zet ik de kaart die ik voor hem heb gemaakt maar even op mijn blog.

Mijn kaart heeft een grote prullenbak met schoolboeken erin. School is klaar en de boeken mogen aan de kant. Een leuke manier om deze bijzondere mijlpaal te vieren.

Keyon gaat eerst een jaartje doen waar hij zelf zin in heeft. Dat betekent dat hij volgend jaar gaat reizen. Van maart tot en met juni gaat hij China, Cambodja, Laos, Indonesië en Japan ontdekken. Wat een geweldig avontuur om naar uit te kijken!

Yes, just a quick card to share today. Keyon has just received the news that he passed his VWO exams. In the Netherlands, it is a tradition to hang out a flag with a school bag attached to celebrate this achievement. Unfortunately, we do not have a flagpole or a flag, so I thought I would share the card I made for him here on my blog.

My card features a large trash bin filled with school books. School is finished and the books can finally be put aside. A fun way to celebrate such an important milestone.

Keyon is going to take a gap year and spend some time doing what he enjoys most. From March through June, he will be exploring China, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia and Japan. What an amazing adventure to look forward to!

Keyon, congratulations, superstar! You did an amazing job and we are so proud of you!

Vlinders voor Moederdag

Vandaag deel ik een kaartje dat erg lijkt op een kaart die ik eerder heb laten zien. Deze versie is alleen een stukje kleiner, maar minstens zo vrolijk. En natuurlijk staan ook hier weer die schattige vlindertjes centraal.

Ik had namelijk zoveel vlindertjes gemaakt dat ik vond dat daar nog een extra kaart mee gemaakt moest worden. Als basis gebruikte ik de Landscape Rectangle Accordion (1198) en de Fence Add-ons (1240). De meeste bloemen op de kaart komen ook uit de Fence Add-ons.

Het margrietje komt uit de Grass Stage Add-ons (1333). Het bloemetje vind ik echt geweldig! Het is zo'n leuk detail en perfect om een kaart lekker vrolijk aan te kleden.

Voor het Moederdag-bordje gebruikte ik onderdelen uit de Bouquet Bits (1293). Het schrijfgedeelte maakte ik met de labels uit de Greeting Labels (1312). Samen met de bloemen en vlinders zorgde dat voor een frisse, kleurrijke kaart die perfect is voor Moederdag.

Today I'm sharing a card that looks very similar to one I've posted before. This version is a little smaller, but just as cheerful. And of course, it also features those adorable butterflies.

I had made so many butterflies that I felt they deserved another card. For the base, I used the Landscape Rectangle Accordion (1198) and the Fence Add-ons (1240). Most of the flowers on the card also come from the Fence Add-ons.

The daisy comes from the Grass Stage Add-ons (1333), and I absolutely love that flower! It's such a fun detail and perfect for adding a cheerful touch to any card.

For the Mother's Day sign, I used elements from the Bouquet Bits (1293). The writing area was created with labels from the Greeting Labels (1312). Together with the flowers and butterflies, they created a fresh and colorful card that is perfect for Mother's Day.

Koffie, Cupcakes en Verjaardagswensen

Ik ga er de komende tijd een paar wat sneller achter elkaar delen, want ik heb nog behoorlijk wat kaarten liggen die ik nog niet heb laten zien.

Deze kaart had ik oorspronkelijk bedacht voor de challenge van mei. Toen ik ontdekte dat een aantal van mijn collega's hetzelfde stage die hadden gekozen, besloot ik voor de challenge toch een ander idee uit te werken. Uiteindelijk kwam deze kaart alsnog goed van pas.

Mijn zwager was begin mei jarig en hij is gek op koffie, dus deze kaart was perfect voor hem. Ik ben begonnen met de Stage Pop-up (1332), de Party Stage Add-ons (1335) en de Coffee Cup Pop-up (1040). Omdat er bij een verjaardag natuurlijk iets lekkers bij de koffie hoort, heb ik ook de cupcakes uit de Cupcake Add-ons (1241) toegevoegd.

Een van mijn favoriete elementen blijft de banner uit de Greeting Labels (1312). Daarop heb ik Happy Birthday gestempeld met VersaMark ink en vervolgens geëmbost met een mooie kleur embossingpoeder. Dat geeft altijd net wat extra uitstraling aan een kaart. Zo werd het een gezellige verjaardagskaart, helemaal passend bij een echte koffieliefhebber.

I'm planning to post several cards in the coming days because I still have quite a collection that I haven't shown yet.

I originally designed this card for the May challenge. However, when I discovered that several of my teammates had chosen the Stage Pop-up, I decided to create something different for the challenge instead. Luckily, this card still found the perfect recipient.

My brother-in-law celebrated his birthday at the beginning of May, and since he loves coffee, this card was made especially for him. I started with the Stage Pop-up (1332), the Party Stage Add-ons (1335), and the Coffee Cup Pop-up (1040). Since every birthday deserves something sweet with a cup of coffee, I also added the cupcakes from the Cupcake Add-ons (1241).

One of my favorite elements is the banner from the Greeting Labels (1312). I stamped Happy Birthday on it using VersaMark ink and then heat embossed it with a fun color of embossing powder. It adds a little extra shine and detail to the finished card. The result is a cheerful birthday card that was perfect for a true coffee lover.

Van Paspoort naar Avontuur

Vandaag maakte ik een kaartje voor een pas geboren meisje. Haar geboortekaartje was vormgegeven als een paspoort, en dat vond ik echt een geweldig idee. Daarom wilde ik graag een kaart maken die daarbij aansloot. Dat bleek alleen iets lastiger dan ik had verwacht. Meestal probeer ik een kaartje op het geboortekaartje te laten lijken, maar deze keer lukte dat niet helemaal.

Toen bedacht ik me dat ik het ook anders kon aanpakken. In plaats van het paspoort na te maken, kon ik het meisje op een groot avontuur sturen. Met de Arch Pop-up (1308) en de Rainbow Add-ons (1309) ging ik aan de slag. Ik maakte een vrolijke scène met een mooie regenboog, een stralend zonnetje en een paar luchtballonnen. Zo ontstond een kaart vol kleur en avontuur, perfect voor een kleine wereldreiziger die haar eerste reis net is begonnen.

Today I made a card for a newborn baby girl. Her birth announcement was designed like a passport, and I thought that was such a fun idea. Naturally, I wanted to create a card that matched it. That turned out to be a little more difficult than I expected. I usually try to make my card look similar to the birth announcement, but this time I just couldn't make it work.

Then I came up with a different idea. Instead of recreating the passport, I could send this little girl on a big adventure. Using the Arch Pop-up (1308) and the Rainbow Add-ons (1309), I started building my scene. I added a colorful rainbow, a bright sunshine, and a few hot air balloons. The result is a cheerful card full of color and adventure, perfect for a little explorer whose journey is only just beginning.

Karen Burniston DC 106 - flag colors

Vandaag is het weer tijd voor de maandelijkse Designer Challenge-kaart. Voor deze uitdaging moest ik de kleuren van de Nederlandse vlag gebruiken: rood, wit en blauw. Dat was een leuke uitdaging en ik wist al snel hoe ik de kleuren wilde verdelen op mijn kaart.

De bloemen zijn rood, de piano is wit en voor de achtergrond koos ik blauw. Zo komen alle drie de kleuren mooi terug zonder dat het te druk wordt.

Als basis gebruikte ik de Piano Keys Pop-up (1274). De bloemen komen uit de Fun Flowers (1234) set. Natuurlijk wilde ik ook een diertje toevoegen. Uiteindelijk koos ik voor een poes, die perfect bij het vrolijke karakter van de kaart past. De tekst Happy Birthday maakte ik met de letters uit Mini Alphabet and Numbers (1197).

Today it's time again for the monthly Designer Challenge card. For this challenge, I had to use the colors of the Dutch flag: red, white, and blue. It was a fun challenge, and I quickly knew how I wanted to incorporate the colors into my card.

The flowers are red, the piano is white, and I chose a blue background. This way, all three colors are clearly visible without overwhelming the design.

I used the Piano Keys Pop-up (1274) as the base of the card. The flowers come from the Fun Flowers (1234) set. Of course, I also wanted to add an animal. In the end, I chose a cat, which fits perfectly with the cheerful feel of the card. The Happy Birthday sentiment was created using the letters from Mini Alphabet and Numbers (1197).

A Floral Birthday Voyage

Vandaag laat ik een verjaardagskaart zien die ik maakte voor mijn nichtje. Op dit moment volg ik een cursus om beter te leren tekenen en kleuren. Deze week kreeg ik ook nieuwe waterverf binnen en dat wilde ik natuurlijk graag uitproberen.

Omdat ik een schip voor mijn nichtje wilde maken, leek het mij een mooi idee om met verschillende tinten blauw het water te schilderen. Ook maakte ik een randje met bloemen. Die bloemen komen terug op de romp van het schip en op de zeilen, zodat alles mooi bij elkaar past.

Mijn nichtje wil graag een paar maanden  op een schip doorbrengen waar ze ook lessen kan volgen. Dat mag met toestemming van school. Daarom vond ik dit bootje met bloemen extra passend voor haar verjaardag.

Voor deze kaart gebruikte ik de Boat Pop-up (1277) en de Pirate Ship Add-ons (1280). Daarnaast gebruikte ik de Circles - Crosshatch (1057), Happy Birthday (1030) en Happy Birthday Shadow (1179). Om nog wat extra leven aan de kaart toe te voegen, gebruikte ik de schattige dolfijn uit Leaping Animals (1301). Ook heb ik de envelop versierd met een mooie bloemenrand.

Today I'm sharing a birthday card I made for my niece. At the moment I'm taking a course to improve my drawing and coloring skills. This week I also received some new watercolor paints, so I was excited to use them on this project.

Since I wanted to create a ship for my niece, I thought it would be a great idea to paint the water in different shades of blue. I also added a floral border. The flowers are repeated on the ship's hull and sails, which ties the whole design together nicely.

My niece wants to spend some time on a ship where she will also be able to continue her studies. This is possible with permission from her school. That made this floral boat card feel like the perfect choice for her birthday.

For this card I used the Boat Pop-up (1277) and the Pirate Ship Add-ons (1280). I also used Circles - Crosshatch (1057), Happy Birthday (1030), and Happy Birthday Shadow (1179). To add a little extra fun, I included the cute dolphin from Leaping Animals (1301). I also decorated the envelope with a beautiful floral border.

Fluttering Butterflies in the Garden

Vandaag laat ik een verjaardagskaart zien vol vrolijke vlindertjes. De vlinders zijn stempels van Lawn Fawn en daar hoort ook een stencil bij. Ik wilde deze techniek al een tijdje uitproberen en dat was echt heel leuk om te doen. Inmiddels heb ik dus een hele verzameling vlinders gemaakt.

Vlinders horen natuurlijk in een tuin, daarom gebruikte ik de Fence Add-ons (1240) samen met de Landscape Rectangle Accordion (1198). In een tuin mogen bloemen natuurlijk ook niet ontbreken. Hiervoor gebruikte ik de Grass Stage Add-ons (1333) en de bloemen uit de Fence Add-ons set. Het kleine tekstvakje komt uit de Greeting Labels (1312) en het Happy Birthday bordje wordt vastgehouden door een Bouquet Bits (1293).

I’m sharing a birthday card today filled with lots of cheerful butterflies. The butterflies are stamps from Lawn Fawn and there is also a matching stencil set available. I had wanted to try this technique for a while and it turned out to be really fun to do. So now I have a whole collection of butterflies ready to use.

Butterflies belong in a garden, so I decided to use the Fence Add-ons (1240) together with the Landscape Rectangle Accordion (1198). And of course, every garden needs flowers. I used the Grass Stage Add-ons (1333) and the flowers from the Fence Add-ons set. The small sentiment label comes from Greeting Labels (1312) and the Happy Birthday sign is held by a Bouquet Bits (1293).

Voetbal kaart

Zo, mijn weekje London zit er alweer op. Ik heb eigenlijk gewoon weer vakantie nodig om bij te komen, maar goed… het gewone leven is ook weer begonnen.

De kaart die ik vandaag laat zien, maakte ik voor een jongen die op de dag dat ik naar London vertrok, vorige week maandag dus, 14 jaar werd. Hij voetbalt, dus een voetbalthema leek mij meteen een leuke keuze.

Ik had laatst wat stempels van Stampin’ Up! gekocht en dit vond ik een perfecte gelegenheid om ze te gebruiken. Als basis gebruikte ik de Spinner Square Pop-up (1042). Daarnaast had ik ook nog superleuk papier met een voetbalthema en met mooi papier kun je eigenlijk al heel veel doen.

Met de Circles - Crosshatch (1057) heb ik het schrijfgedeelte gemaakt. Op de voorkant maakte ik met verschillende alfabetsetjes de tekst happy birthday.

So, my week in London is already over. Honestly, I probably need another vacation to recover, but real life has started again.

The card I am sharing today was made for a boy who turned 14 on the day I left for London, which was last Monday. He plays football, so a football theme felt like the perfect choice.

I recently bought some stamps from Stampin’ Up! and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to use them. As the base for the card, I used the Spinner Square Pop-up (1042). I also had some really cool football-themed paper and good paper already does a lot for a card design.

I used the Circles - Crosshatch (1057) for the writing area inside the card. On the front, I created the happy birthday text using different alphabet sets.

London, here I come!

Vandaag de laatste vriendenkaart. Deze kaart heeft opnieuw een Japans thema. Dit keer heb ik de Stage Pop-up (1332) gebruikt. Zelf ben ik ooit op vakantie geweest naar Japan en daar hebben we vlak bij Hiroshima een torii gate bezocht die in het water staat. Daarom heb ik ook water verwerkt op deze kaart.

Voor de torii gate, die ik heb uitgesneden met mijn ScanNCut, staat een cherry blossom tree op een klein heuveltje. Voor de rand rondom de stage heb ik de Party Stage Add-ons (1335) gebruikt.

Het was weer erg leuk om deze kaart te maken. Ik blijf Japanse kaartjes gewoon erg leuk vinden. Er komen dit jaar zeker nog een paar aan, maar dan met sushi als thema.

Voor nu ga ik me vooral richten op mijn vakantie. Morgen vroeg pak ik de trein naar Amsterdam en reis ik verder met de trein naar London. Even een weekje bijkomen en eindelijk naar de Harry Potter Studios gaan. Ik heb er echt ontzettend veel zin in.

Today it is time for the last friendship card. Once again, this card has a Japanese theme. This time I used the Stage Pop-up (1332). I once traveled to Japan myself and near Hiroshima we visited a torii gate standing in the water. That memory inspired me to add water elements to this card as well.

In front of the torii gate, which I cut with my ScanNCut, there is a cherry blossom tree on a small hill. For the border around the stage, I used the Party Stage Add-ons (1335).

I really enjoyed making this card again. I just love Japanese-inspired cards. There will definitely be a few more later this year, but next time with a sushi theme.

For now, I am mainly focusing on my holiday. Tomorrow morning I will take the train to Amsterdam and then continue by train to London. A nice week to relax and finally visit the Harry Potter Studios. I am really looking forward to it.

Karen Burniston DC 105 - CAFFEINATE!

Vandaag is het weer tijd voor de challenge kaart. Het thema voor mei is "CAFFEINATE!", dus alles rondom koffie, thee, frisdrank of chocolade. Super leuk, want daar kun je alle kanten mee op.

Ik wilde heel graag iets doen met de Coffee Charms (1041). Bedeltjes moeten natuurlijk bungelen, anders is het geen charme meer. Terwijl ik bezig was, bedacht ik me dat ik met de Photo Gallery Pop-up (1331) iets leuks kon maken. Er zitten zes fotootjes in, maar ik heb er drie uit het midden gehaald. Alles  6 het midden uithalen kon ook, maar dan werd het geheel een beetje slapjes.

Voor de basis heb ik een vierkantje gebruikt uit de Photo Fan Pop-up (1292) dat net iets groter is dan de binnenkant van de polaroid. Om de bedeltjes op te hangen heb ik de Charm Rings (1284) gebruikt. Eerst probeerde ik metalen ringetjes, maar dat werd te dik. Met de polaroid heb ik dat uiteindelijk netjes weggewerkt.

Op de voorkant heb ik de koffiekop uit de Coffee Cup Pop-up (1040) gebruikt. De Greeting Labels (1312) en de Coffee Chat clear stamps (021) maken de kaart helemaal af.

Deze kaart heb ik aan mijn moeder gegeven, want het is natuurlijk Moederdag op zondag. Een perfect moment voor een kaartje met een beetje extra liefde en een vleugje koffie.

Today it’s time for the challenge card again. The theme for May is "CAFFEINATE!", so anything related to coffee, tea, soda or chocolate. Such a fun theme with lots of possibilities.

I really wanted to use the Coffee Charms (1041). Charms should dangle, otherwise they’re just not as fun. While working on the card, I realized I could do something creative with the Photo Gallery Pop-up (1331). It includes six photos, but I removed three from the center. I could have done them all, but that made the design feel a bit too soft.

For the base, I used a square from the Photo Fan Pop-up (1292) that is just slightly larger than the inside of the polaroid. To hang the charms, I used the Charm Rings (1284). I first tried metal rings, but they were too bulky. The polaroid frame helped me hide everything neatly.

On the front, I used the coffee cup from the Coffee Cup Pop-up (1040). The Greeting Labels (1312) and Coffee Chat clear stamps (021) finish the card.

I gave this card to my mom, since it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday. The perfect moment for a handmade card with a little extra love and a touch of coffee.

Laat het papier het werk doen

Vandaag deel ik de tweede kaart in de serie van de drie vrienden van Keyon. Voor deze kaart heb ik het papier echt het werk laten doen. Dit meisje houdt namelijk nogal van ruimte. In Klarenbeek vond ik een supergaaf papiertje met een ruimtethema. Daar zat zelfs een raket bij die perfect past bij de Rocket Pop-Up 1105. Soms valt alles gewoon mooi samen!

Het laat maar weer zien dat je met bijzonder papier en een paar slimme keuzes al snel een waanzinnige kaart kunt maken, zonder dat je heel veel extra nodig hebt.

Today I’m sharing the second card in the series of the three friends of Keyon. For this card, I really let the paper do the work. This girl loves space.

In Klarenbeek, I found an awesome space-themed paper. It even included a rocket that works perfectly with the Rocket Pop-Up 1105. Sometimes everything just comes together!

It shows that with great paper and a few smart choices, you can create an amazing card without needing a lot of extra supplies.

Japanse verjaardagskaart met sushi

Mijn kind had gisteren een verjaardag van zijn vriendenclub. Drie mensen vierden hun verjaardag, dus ik kon lekker aan de slag met kaarten. Vandaag begin ik met de eerste kaart, een Japanse kaart.

Ik had laatst mooi Japans papier gevonden bij een winkel in Klarenbeek, dat is ongeveer tien minuten rijden vanaf mijn huis. Soms kom je van die leuke materialen tegen waar je meteen ideeën van krijgt, en dit papier was daar een goed voorbeeld van.

Mijn sushi stempels kon ik helaas niet meer vinden, dus ik ben in mijn ScanNCut bestanden gaan kijken. Daar vond ik gelukkig een sushi en een sojasaus ontwerp. Samen met wat cherry blossom begon het al snel ergens op te lijken.

Daarna moest ik nog bedenken welk mechanisme ik wilde gebruiken voor de kaart. Uiteindelijk heb ik gekozen voor de Rockin’ Rectangle Pop-up (1089). Het schrijfovaaltje komt uit de set Ovals - Crosshatch (1055). Ik vind het altijd leuk om verschillende elementen te combineren tot één geheel.

My child had a birthday party with friends yesterday. Three people were celebrating their birthdays, so I have plenty of reasons to make cards. Today I am starting with the first one, a Japanese themed card.

I recently found some beautiful Japanese paper at a shop in Klarenbeek, which is about a ten-minute drive from my house. Sometimes you come across materials that instantly spark ideas, and this paper definitely did that for me.

I couldn’t find my sushi stamps, so I checked my ScanNCut files. Luckily I found a sushi and soy sauce design there. Combined with some cherry blossom elements, it quickly started to come together.

Then I had to decide which mechanism I wanted to use for the card. I ended up choosing the Rockin’ Rectangle Pop-up (1089). The writing oval comes from the set Ovals - Crosshatch (1055). I always enjoy combining different elements into one design.
