Vandaag is het weer tijd voor de challenge kaart. Deze keer moest ik een liedje kiezen. Ik heb gekozen voor een nummer uit de jaren 80 dat toen veel indruk op mij heeft gemaakt.
Het lied Zwart Wit is geschreven door Frank Boeijen en verscheen in 1984. Het nummer is ontstaan naar aanleiding van een echte gebeurtenis: de racistische moord op Kerwin Duinmeijer in 1983 in Amsterdam. Dit maakte veel los in Nederland en zette het onderwerp racisme en uitsluiting duidelijk op de kaart.
Het lied gaat over racisme, groepsdruk en de gevolgen van denken in tegenstellingen. In de tekst loopt iemand ’s avonds door de stad en wordt getuige van een gewelddadige situatie. Zinnen als “Je hoort niet bij ons” en “Denk goed na aan welke kant je staat” laten zien hoe mensen in hokjes worden geplaatst en gedwongen worden te kiezen.
De boodschap is helder: zwart-wit denken is gevaarlijk. Dat hoor je duidelijk in het refrein. Denk niet wit, denk niet zwart, denk niet zwart-wit, maar in de kleur van je hart.
Frank Boeijen roept hiermee op tot menselijkheid en empathie. Het gaat niet om huidskleur, afkomst of groep, maar om wat er in je hart zit. Het nummer vraagt ook om verantwoordelijkheid. Kijk niet weg, denk na over je keuzes en durf je uit te spreken.
De basis van mijn kaart heb ik gemaakt met de Twist Flower Pop-up (1239). De hartjes komen uit Hearts - Crosshatch (1191). Voor de teksten heb ik Alphabet (1053) en Mini Alphabet and Numbers (1197) gebruikt.
Omdat ik de boodschap zo krachtig vind, heb ik de kaart bewust rustig gehouden en niet versierd zoals ik dat normaal doe.
Today it is time for the challenge card again. This time I had to choose a song. I chose a song from the 1980s that made a big impression on me back then.
The song Zwart Wit was written by Frank Boeijen and released in 1984. It was inspired by a real event: the racist murder of Kerwin Duinmeijer in Amsterdam in 1983. This event had a huge impact on Dutch society and brought racism and exclusion into sharp focus.
The song is about racism, group pressure and the danger of thinking in opposites. In the lyrics someone walks through the city at night and witnesses violence. Lines like “You do not belong with us” show how people are put into boxes and forced to choose sides.
The message is clear: thinking in black and white is dangerous. This is expressed clearly in the chorus. Do not think white, do not think black, do not think black and white, but think in the color of your heart.
The song is a call for empathy and humanity. It is not about color, background or groups, but about what is in your heart. It also asks for personal responsibility: do not look away, think about your choices and speak up.
I used the Twist Flower Pop-up (1239) for the base of the card. The hearts are from Hearts - Crosshatch (1191). The text was made with Alphabet (1053) and Mini Alphabet and Numbers (1197).
Because I find the message so strong, I kept the card simple and did not decorate it the way I usually do.
